Reinventing accessible and engaging learning
St. Gallen
Inclusive Education
We want to reinvent the system of institutionalized education by enabling accessibility of equal knowledge and integration of the social context: An environment that can adapt the learning experience to suit students’ personal learning styles and engages students to collaborate and exchange. Also, we want to enrich the roles of teachers to have closer relationships to their students.
Point of Departure:
Digitalization can bridge time and space, allowing us to rethink the way we mediate education. Nevertheless, as seen with the current crisis, digital learning environments do lack social contexts that come along with human interactions. Students lack motivation with a complete digital setup. Therefore, we asked ourselves:
How might we reinvent the learning environment for high school students so that digitalization expands and complements their educational experience?
Actions:
In a further step, we thought about certain actions to create such an engaging learning environment:
-Mimic the atmosphere of a known space by recreating campus structure as digital environment, including the facilities like libraries etc.
-Raise engagement with gamified learning tools
-Leverage data intelligence for personalized learning experience:
-Incentivize peer-to-peer learning to raise interactions between students
-Enrich teachers roles
Impact:
With the mentioned actions, we ensure not just the accessibility of equal knowledge, but also making students active and motivated learners. Students will get a personalized learning experience, they will be empowered to build networks and through a new role of teachers, adaptively becoming mentors or cooperative coaches and self-responsibility of students will be enhanced.
